great weekend gold coast fishing

Great weekend ahead for Gold Coast fishing

Brett is away on annual leave for a week or so, no doubt chasing a few fish and I am sure he will have a story or two for you on his return and some photos to go with it.

After a bit of rain last weekend the weather cleared on the Gold Coast to a pretty nice week, we have had a lot of Houseboats out enjoying the great weekend and weekday conditions and finding a feed of fish and sand crabs which are making up the bulk of the catch from the Houseboat Customers again this week in the main Broadwater and Jumpinpin Channels.

The mud crabs are still showing up in better numbers and that will be due to the past rains.  Whole mullet is best for you crab pots, remember to make sure your pots are correctly identified.

Our Houseboat customers caught some good sized Whiting and Bream off the sandbanks east of Cobby Passage this week, also the Logan River, Western end of Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and the Bedrooms are worth a look.  Yabbies and Worms are great bait.

A mate from down the Tweed way tells me that King Fish have been on the bite down that way and some good size ones too.  King Fish are attracted to fast moving or erratically moving lures, hard shinny metals are best.

With the weather starting to warm up it is a great time to start chasing Mangrove Jack and Trevally.  We have seen a few Jacks swimming around the Gold Coast City Marina in the Coomera River this past week.  Some good bait schools of herring have been getting smashed this week by Jacks and Trevally early morning and late in the afternoon.  Rolling Zman 4’ minnows along the edges of the pontoons, this method will also work around rock walls, rock bars, bridges and snags.  Trolling hard body lures or live bait is also a great way to target a Jack.  Canals throughout the Broadwater and the Nerang River are good spots to have a look, also bridges, rock walls and fallen trees will hold fish.
