Hi there anglers,
With February throwing its usual little weather tantrum it honestly hasn’t been that bad. The cyclone off Fiji will be pushing some big swell this weekend. Wind speeds will be up to 15-20 knots. This means that Friday is our last day to head offshore. But the outlook hopefully will be in favour to the angler after this weekend. ‘The calm after the storm’.
The weather has been up and down but a few of the charter companies have headed out and had great success. A few mad keen anglers have also enjoyed the rare good days February has had to offer. The likes of Mackerel, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi and billfish terrorizing the surface and there has been some good reef fish also with Tusk fish, Pearl Perch, The odd Snapper and some big sweetlip. Notable spots for offshore have been around the Caloundra 9 mile and 12 mile for the surface and the Marlin Grounds off Mooloolaba have produced. The Blinker and Gneerings have had some spotty mackerel and good reef fish. Murpheys has had some good reef fish also.
The rivers haven’t been fished hard so those who are out there are getting a few good ones. Big Bream and Hair-Tail have been caught lately at night along the Mooloolaba rock wall and the Pt Cartwright boat ramp. The Blue swimmer crabs have been caught in the lower reaches with a few big muddies caught in the canals. Mangrove Jack around on the full moon and have terrorized a few anglers at night.
