This 59cm Coral trout would have to be my favourite. Caught out at the Gneerings by Eric Frei. What he believes to be the trick is fish as light weight as the current allows. Wise words my friend.

This weekend the real deal

Hi there anglers,
The weatherman couldn’t predict the weekend before Wednesday. But we have now seen the wind and swell gradually drop and the sun is coming out. The swell will maintain itself around the 1m mark and below with the wind meter predicting around 8 knots through the course of the weekend. This trend will see through to mid next week.

There has been plenty going on through the week but this weekend is the real deal. The reef is going to be sensational with drifting around the banks, 12 mile and Murpheys very achievable. There are plenty of grassies, moses perch and many more species to land out at the marks. The tuna are in full swing now with them absolutely everywhere chasing the bait balls to the surface. Reports have come in to say they are as close in as 2km from the mouth of the Mooloolah River and Old woman could be the spot to land a few. Don’t forget the mackerel are still around and trolling large deep diving lures or big dead baits is the best option to land the bigger mackerel.

The beach has proven to be a little difficult earlier in the week to find a nice gutter. A few burley pellets in the wash should help entice the fish to come around to where you are fishing. Plenty of big Dart around and the new moon on Friday is fantastic for the Jew fish. Plenty of fish like the full moon and this is one of the better species. Use beach worms, prawns and ganged pillies and you should be in with some good times.

The Mooloolah River has been fishing quite well with plenty of full muddies marching back up the river after the rain. The mouth of the river has been full of action with some nice bream making their way around the entrance. There have been some small squire, grassies and the odd jew around the rocks at Pt Cartwright aswell. The sand banks and rocks are your friend in the river as the fish will hang around them. Big flatties will ambush unsuspecting baits and lures along those drop offs. Best baits are pillies, prawns, beach worms and herring.
We now have a Youtube Channel so jump on and check some of the informative video’s we are
posting up. We would also consider adding any home video’s, of great action be it river, ocean or
beach. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiMyWsjGiFeTjRaWdTsQmnw
