Tailor in the Noosa River

Woods Bay has seen some good numbers of tailor, some good sized fish being taken on poppers, stickbaits and micro jigs. Trevally are also in the mix with golden, giant, big eye and tea leaf all on the chew. Still the odd queenfish being caught on surface lures, these fish are great fun as they are very acrobatic and will often launch themselves at the lure and take to the air during the fight. Some nice winter bream have been taken on strip baits and prawns. At the river mouth mangrove jack have again been enjoying live baits, soft vibes lures and Prawnstars rigged with an additional sinker under the chin (Nitschinsck rig).

There has been the odd legal jew fish, with a lot of smaller ones in the mix on larger soft plastics. Weyba Creek has seen good sized whiting on live yabbies, worms and surface lures give the Strada float, Fish Candy Skinny Dog and Skinny Pop Juniors a go! Flathead, bream, the odd grunter bream are also in good numbers. There has been a good run of mud crabs throughout the river, remember to label your pots clearly above the water line and check them every few hours.

Offshore the bay has seen plenty of tuna with mixed schools of mac tuna, longtail and yellowfin. Surface stickbaits like River 2 Sea skip sticks, Cotton Cordell pencil poppers and Shimano Orca’s are a great visual way to chase them. Out on Sunshine Reef Sweetlip, squire, tusk fish, coral trout, pearlies, spotted mackerel, Spanish mackerel have all been on the menu over the last week.

Chicko from Davo’s Tackle World headed out to Sunshine Reef through the week and bagged a couple of cracker spanish mackerel.
