Rain Around but Fishing Still Good

Hi there anglers,

Although the rain is around, we still have some good fishing on offer. The reports coming in of all the local rivers producing some big Summer Whiting, Bream and Flathead on prawns, pipi’s, pilly’s and yabbies. The Mooloolah River mouth is still the hot spot with plenty of variety off the rock walls. Unweighted Pilly’s or Bonito Strips on gangs are the better baits off the wall, catching a few Tailor and school Mackerel. The upper reaches have seen more Mangrove Jack on the prowl and using soft plastics, strip and live baits have caught the most.

With the off shore showing good signs of Pelagic action and also a few nice reef species and anglers not having to travel too far to get them. School Mackerel have been hitting schools of bait around old woman and a few snapper and tuskies at The Gneerings and Currumundi reefs. Caloundra 9 Mile has had the better reports of widespread action with snapper, tuskies, cobia and small Spanish mackerel. The Outter Gneerings and Murpheys are always a trusted spot for a great range of fish. We have just had the super moon pass and the tides are big. The high tides seem to be working best for most species caught.

Remember if you want the best fish you will have to investigate your area and burley. Fish the right times, Tides and moon phases. The early morning fish has worked better for offshore and onshore fishing. Burley has changed the outcome for landing your targets. In a boat a burley pot down the anchor line is best and for onshore the spread of tuna oil, fish pellets and fish meal is best.
