Plenty of fishing options on Gold Coast

A pretty good week on the Gold Coast weather wise has offered anglers plenty of fishing options to explore both inshore and offshore. Let’s see what’s been on the chew.
A few nice Whiting have been caught lately, they are biting on both worms and yabbies. Pete and Snowy managed to land a nice feed last week. Try the Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well Shoals, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Coomera River, Pimpama River, Paradise Point and Wave Break Island sandbanks. I recommend using a long fluro carbon trace of 6lb, a size 6 hook matched with a 4 ball sinker will do the trick.
Flathead have been on the chew this week, just like all fishing find the bait you should find the fish nearby. Jumpinpin has fished well with some big fish being caught and also some nice sized eating fish around the 45-50 cm mark. Good spots to look are the Pin Bar Mouth and along Kalinga Bank, Bedrooms, Crusoe Island, Green Bank, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, Logan River and the Never Fail Islands. The Broadwater has also seen very consistent fishing, best spots are the Coomera River North & South arms, Pimpama River, Brown Island, Aldershots, Paradise Point, Wave Break Island and the Seaway. Trolling lures if the weed isn’t too bad is a good option to cover ground and find fish, once you locate a good area then a mixture of casting plastics and vibes will work.
The current was running a bit stronger on the 18 to 24 fathom area during the week, you just had to adjust your sinker size to suit the conditions. There is still plenty of bait around and good signs of fish if you spend the time to sound around to find a good spot. It’s still worth using burley you just need to throw the cubes up current a bit to work, float lining has produced Snapper, Moses Perch, Jew Fish, Pearl Perch, Trag Jew, Bonito, even the odd school Mackerel, Squid, WA Pilchards, Mullet Fillet, Bonito Fillet or live baits like Yakka’s are great.
Good size Bream have been on offer around Short Island, Slipping Sands, Crusoe Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River, Coomera River, Paradise Point, Wave Break Island and Gold Coast Seaway all fishing well this week. Mullet Fillet, Mullet Gut, White Pilchards, Squid, Prawns and Yabbies are all great bait.
