Offshore a Good Option on Gold Coast

Wind, wind and more wind on the Gold Coast this week, with offshore fishing off limits due to wind and swell anglers stuck to the local rivers out of the wind in the Broadwater and Jumpinpin to try their luck. We had plenty of Houseboats out over the ANZAC Long Weekend fishing and crabbing, we have lots of good fishing spots out of the wind on the Gold Coast, they managed a feed of fish and crabs.

The forecast is looking 100% better for the Labour Day Long Weekend with light winds and Sunshine on the way. For offshore fishos the swell has eased enough to make heading out through the Seaway or Pin bar a great option this weekend. The local reefs will be a great option after all the wind and swell has stirred everything up. Hopefully the current has started to ease a bit making bottom fishing a good option. Try the either the 36, 24 or 18 fathom line east of the Seaway for a feed of Snapper, Tuskfish, Trag Jew, Spangled Emperor, Moses, Mauri Cod and Cobia. It’s worth having a troll around the 24 & 18 fathom reefs for a Spanish and Wahoo as they were quite active before the wind and swell arrived.

Fishing the Gold Coast Seaway after a big blow and swell is a great option, normally a few reef species like Snapper, Tuskfish and Sweetlip move if to feed along with the local resident JewFish, Trevally and Bream. A few Tailor have started to move through Jumpinpin the past few weeks, the Bar entrance, Canaipa Passage and Tiger Mullet Channel will normally also fish well.
Fishing the rivers and estuary’s around the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and the Logan River has produced a good feed of Bream, Flathead and Whiting. The Logan river has also been fishing well for large Threadfin Salmon lately.

Some nice Mud Crabs were caught over the Anzac long weekend, the big tides from the full moon helped to flush out the creeks. The Coomera River, Brown Island, The Never Fail Islands, Logan River, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage and Russell Island all crabbed well. Just make sure your bait is not too old and smelly for best results.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see light Easterly winds Friday and Saturday before shifting Northerly Sunday. For the public holiday Monday light Southerly winds and the chance of a shower but mostly sunny for the majoring of the weekend. If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing.
