Nice conditions for fishing on Gold Coast

It’s been a pretty good week on the Gold Coast, the SE winds finally eased on Thursday giving us some nice conditions to go fishing.
We have a full moon on Friday this will have an influence on both the tides and how the fishing will be over the weekend. If you are fishing close to the ocean entrances try to plan your trip around a tide change, usually an hour before and after the change will see the water flow slow enough to make the fishing a bit easier and give a good chance during a bite time period, just adjust the size sinker you use to suit the water flow. Night time tides are always bigger than daytime seeing a lot more water moving through the area. Sometimes fishing the full moon can be a bit tough but well worth a go. I find it gets the crabs on the move, especially Sand Crabs are defiantly worth targeting along with a winter season Muddy.
My customers have been catching plenty of Flathead this week, it must be one of the best Winter Flathead seasons from memory we have had on the Gold Coast for few years. Soft plastics either paddle tail like Zman Minnoz 3 & 4 inch or curly tail Streakz in 4inch have been working well matched with HeadlockZ 1/4 or 3/8 jig heads. Vibes and Metal blades are another great option and easy to teach the kids how to tea bag the lures, they work well when fishing deeper water 2m or over. For the bait fisho I’d recommend Mullet Fillet Strips, White Pilchards, Whole WA Pilchards and Yabbies drift fished to cover ground. Some great spots to try are Coomera River both North & South Arms, Wave Break Island, Gold Coast Seaway, Middle banks from Crab Island to Top of Sovereign Islands, Tipplers Passage, Dux, Jacobs Well , Canaipa Passage, Bedrooms and the Logan River.

A few nice Jew Fish have been caught over the past week, try the Seaway Pipeline, Pin Bar, Kalinga Bank, Five Ways Junction, Logan River Marks Rocks and Coomera River have all produced fish. Some have responded to larger soft plastics and also live baits like Mullet, Tailor 35cm size limit, Pike and Herring will do the job, just put in the time and you will be rewarded with a great catch.
Customers are catching good size Bream throughout the Pin and Broadwater. Its’ worth trying Tiger Mullet Channel, Short Island, Crusoe Island, Eden Island, Kalinga Bank, Jacobs Well, Logan River, Coomera River, Paradise Point and the Esplanade at Biggera Waters and Labrador.
At the time of writing my report it looks like Saturday will be the pick of the weekend with light W/NW winds, by Sunday the W/NW wind will increase and we will see plenty of Sunshine into next week.
