Mackerel chewing off Kawana

Hi there anglers,
So far so good with the weather outlook but remember to see the most up to date reports on our Facebook page and pay close attention to the weather predictions from the BOM.

With the current outlook looking around 10 knots with swell decreasing from 1.5m I would most definitely be looking at gearing up for the weekend and preparing some troll baits in the freezer for chasing some Mackerel. There is plenty of bait offshore with a few livies been picked up just off Pt Cartwright headland and the Blinker as well. The change on the high tide worked for me the other day so I would target sunrise and sunset or the High tide changes.

There are plenty of school mackerel around the Gneering and the Blinker. The bigger pelagics are around but are harder to come by. Caloundra Wide and Caloundra 9 Mile are working for some small Squire and Pearl Perch with Squid and Pillies a great choice of baits. Slimies are the pick for chasing the larger reef species in deeper water. We still haven’t hit the Mackerel season yet but is is good to see a few spotties, Spanish and some wahoo caught.
The river has kept many entertained with Bream, Whiting and Tarwhine by the droves. A little bit of burley played a big part to entice a good bite and the run out tide work the best. Prawns have been the best bait so far to date as generic bait to catch these fish with the odd trevally and nice flatty also. School Mackerel are still hanging around off the rock walls and a nice ganged baby blue pilly or even Garfish has worked well. The Pumicestone Passage still holds plenty of whiting for the kids with Picnic Point in the Maroochy a great place to snag a few good ones also.
