Jumpinpin Producing Trevally and More

What a fantastic start to May on the Gold Coast, light winds and blue skies put a big smile on everyone’s faces. We have a great weather forecast on the way for the weekend, so let’s have a look at how the fishing was this week.

Customers have reported plenty of bait schools moving through the Jumpinpin Bar area which have attracted some nice sized Trevally, Tailor and Jew Fish this week. Keep an eye out for birds feeding and splashing this will indicate fish feeding on bait schools. Throwing metal slugs, plastics and surface poppers into the bait schools is a great method to score a Trevally or Tailor. Jew Fish have been hitting live baits and big soft plastics in the deep water. As the Mullet schools start to move in during the cooler months the quality and size of Jew will get better. The Gold Coast Seaway has been fishing well for Jew Fish, Trevally, Squire, and Bream, also a few Tailor have been caught on the top of the tide.

Whiting have been active in the rivers and throughout Jumpinpin and the Broadwater this week, some nice size fish up to 40cm like Pam caught on her recent Houseboat Holiday are on offer. Try Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage, Shoals at Jacobs Well, Coomera River North and South Arms, Paradise Point and Wave Break Island. Worms and Yabbies are the best bait.
Our customers have reported a bit of action offshore this week, the current was slow enough in close making bottom fishing a lot easier. A few Snapper have been caught on the local 24 and 18 fathom reefs east of the Seaway, Surfers and Casino. It’s defiantly worth having a look at the 36’s this weekend for a Snapper, Tusk Fish, Mauri Cod, Cobia, Samson or AJ. A few Pearlies are also showing up on the 50 fathom line.

Some nice Flathead have been on offer the past couple of weeks, not a lot of big ones around yet but good numbers of fish between 40cm to 55cm range have been hitting Zmas 3” Minnows and StreakZ 4” worked around creek mouths, sandbanks and drop offs around Jumpinpin and the Broadwater. Local angler Jackson has been sending some nice photos of his trips.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see light South to South Easterly winds Friday, Saturday and Sunday before shifting Northerly on Monday and increasing. Sunday looks like the best day for hitting the water. With a new moon on Saturday the tides will be big so expect pretty strong water flow when fishing in shore.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing.
