Corey with his catch from the weekend.

Gold Coast enjoying great fishing

It’s been a great week here on the Gold Coast, with a fantastic weather forecast for getting out on the water and chasing a fish. We have a lot of houseboats out enjoying the Australia Day public holiday on Thursday.

Young local angler Corey had a great session last Sunday fishing in the Coomera River next to our shop landing a quality Flathead and Trevally for dinner, he will have a good story to tell his school mates this week.  The Coomera River has been fishing well this week, Trevally have been getting stuck in to bait schools around the Marinas and pontoons.  A few small Mangrove Jack were on offer last weekend after the cooler south easterly wind change.  The weather has started to heat up this week so chasing a big Red fish will be a good option.

Mud Crabs have been on the move after the rain last week end, our Houseboat Customers have caught some nice Mud Crabs at Tabby Tabby Island, Eden Island and Jacobs Well, but it is worth dropping some pots around Canaipa Passage, Tiger Mullet Channel, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands and the Coomera River.  Whole Mullet or Fish Frames make great bait just remember to change your bait regularly and don’t leave old smelly bait in the pots as the Crabs like fresh bait best.

A few early season Prawns have started to show up around the Power Lines, Cabbage Tree Point and along Russel Island, it’s worth getting out and having a look. Just be informed about the current closure from Biosecurity Queensland for the Logan and Albert River https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/animal-industries/animal-health-and-diseases/a-z-list/white-spot-disease/use-of-bait-prawns

If your new to chasing a prawn just keep an eye out for other boats casting nets, just remember your manners as it can get a bit hectic at times especially if your new to prawning.

Some nice Whiting have been taking Yabbies and Worms around Wave Break Island, Crab Island, Paradise Point, Tipplers Passage, the Coomera River North & South Arms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well, Mouth of Cobby Passage and Curtis Anchorage.
