Fresh flush good for Gold Coast fishing

We have had a bit of a wet and overcast week on the Gold Coast, anglers that were keen enough to hit the water have been rewarded with some nice catches.

Customers have reported good catches of Bream this week, a bit of rain will help stir up the system and give the rivers a little flush out which should make the fish more active chasing a feed.

We have smaller tides on the first quarter of the moon this will make fishing areas of higher tidal flow a bit easier. We were watching some keen anglers next to our office landing a few nice Bream in the rain during the week in the Coomera River, they managed a nice feed land based.

Areas around Jumpinpin like Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, McKenzies Channel, Short Island, Eden Island, Kalinga Bank and Crusoe Island have fished well.

In the southern Broadwater try Coomera River both North & South Arms, Paradise Point, Crab Island, Gold Coast Seaway, Marine Parade Labrador and the Southport Bridge. I recommend using Mullet Fillet Strips on a bait holder style hook, also try Prawns, Squid, White Pilchards, Chicken Gut (Fishos) or live Yabbies.

My mates found some nice Tailor during the week trolling hard body lures 80 to 100mm in size, I prefer to use a rod about 7ft in length matched with a reel 2500 to 3000 size spooled with 6-8lb braid and fluro carbon leader 10-12lb will work fine and offer the angler a fun fight on most sized fish.

Good schools of bait are showing up throughout the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and local Rivers like the Coomera and Logan.

Some nice school sized Tailor have been caught during the week along with a few bigger Green Backs in both the Coomera & Logan.

My best advice is to fish the last 2 hours of the incoming tide and keep an eye out for birds actively feeding or fish splashing on top of the water, it’s the little things that can make a good day even better.

The Gold Coast Seaway entrance and channels leading north past Currigee or south to Marina Mirage are producing fish, also around the Pin Bar along Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island, North Bedrooms and Canaipa Passage have fished well.

We have had an extra good run of Flathead so far this Winter; customers have been consistently finding fish which is great.

Either Bait or lures have worked; try Brown Island, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Jacobs Well Shoals, Curtis, Tipplers Passage, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River, Coomera River and Canaipa Passage.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we have a great weekend forecast on the way with light Westerly winds and much needed sunshine on the way.

The Southerly will increase for the start of the working week but will ease by Wednesday.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
