Flathead Firing in Gold Coast Rivers

You will be happy to know that Brett will be back next week and I am sure will have a story to two to tell about the one that got away! In the meantime, Mike here with the local report for this week.

Lots of activity on the water over the weekend due to the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show and the Gold Coast International Marine Expo. The Gold Coast weather didn’t disappoint with exceptional warm temperatures, light winds, small swell and lots of Sunshine.

We have had reports of good numbers of Flathead being caught in the local rivers during the last week. They are being caught on soft plastics, but they will also hit hard body lures and take both live and dead bait.  The rivers are holding plenty of bait schools at the moment and the Flathead are quite active chasing a feed. Once the weather starts to cool down you will find the larger fish will move further up the rivers where the water will be a bit warmer.  Good spots to try are the Coomera River both North & South arms, Logan River and the Pimpama River.  In the main Broadwater try Brown Island, Crab Island and Wave Break Island.

Good size Bream are starting to bite. We had a report of a nice 33cm being caught at Paradise Point on the weekend. Bream are a lot of fun and can be caught all year round, but the better quality fish are definitely caught during the winter months.  Bream are not fussy and a variety of bait will work, prawns, squid, worms, Fishos, white pilchards and Yabbies are all good choices. Some land based spots to try are The Grand Hotel Jetty, Lands End Biggera Creek and Paradise Point.

Good luck to everyone competing in The King of the Pin this weekend.

The weekend is shaping up to be a cracker with light N/NW winds on Saturday and Sunday and some Sunshine to top it off.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing.

Mike
