Fishing Picking Up Around Bundaberg

Good news is that the fishing around Bundaberg is starting to pick up. All the local rivers and creeks should start to receive more salt water which will push further up most systems with the full moon next Tuesday night and bigger tides. The forecast this weekend doesn’t look too bad with mostly sunny days predicted.  The only problem is that the south easterlies will be blowing, creating big seas offshore and restricting any fishing trips to our rivers and dams.

Both the Kolan and Elliott Rivers have started to clean up and good reports are starting to filter in this week.  The Kolan would be my pick for this weekend to go and try to chase a few mangrove jack, barramundi and flathead on soft plastics. Good numbers of muddies have also been caught in the Kolan this past week.  A few whispers of prawns in all systems but only small.  The size and quantity should improve over the coming weeks.

Baffle Creek may be another good option over this weekend, mangrove jack, flathead and barramundi have all been active in the clean water around the mouth.  Further upstream is still running a little fresh from the last rain. The fishing will only get better over the next few weeks.

The barramundi fishing up at Lake Monduran has slowed due to the recent inflow.  The dam is back up to 99%, the water is still a little dirty due to dying grass and vegetation on the banks. February and March are generally an awesome time to target the impoundment barramundi and let’s hope we don’t receive any more rain and the barra fire up later this month.

Fish with confidence,

Dale Smith
