Crabs, Flathead and Mangrove Jack Around Tin Can Bay and Great Sandy Straits

The countdown is on with only two weeks left until Christmas and three weeks until 2016.

The past week has seen catches of bream, whiting and flathead throughout Tin Can Bay and the Great Sandy Straits with the sand flats around Poona and Tinnanbar providing a great option for land based anglers.

Mangrove Jack, grunter, bream and cod are coming from the creeks with live baits of herring, silver biddies or poddy mullet along with flesh baits of mullet fillet working well.

Plenty of crab activity over the past few weeks and hopefully a little rain should stir things up a little more.

Big tides this weekend will provide anglers the opportunity to push a little further up the creeks in search of a few deeper holes normally not accessible on smaller tides.

Looking at the current forecast we are in for a few hot days along with some showers and storms.  Best opportunity to get out for a fish will be early mornings before the wind picks up.  Saturday looks like the pick of the days over the weekend then Monday to Wednesday looks like it will be awesome conditions before the wind picks up again on Thursday.

Pick for the weekend will be try for Jack’s in the creeks such as Teebar, Snapper, Carlo and Kauri.

If your looking for a few gift ideas for the fisherman in the family make sure you drop by the store and check out the range.  Alternatively gift vouchers are available and phone orders are welcome.  If your visiting the region over Christmas and are looking for quality fresh bait give us a call to pre order your supplies.  Live worms will be available on good days but best to reserve your tub before the sell out.

Until next week stay safe on the water.

Regards,
