Community meeting to discuss Queensland fishing rules

Local fishers are invited to an information evening to discuss local fishing issues and Queensland fishing rules.

The information evening will be held at the Australian Hotel (Grey St, St George) on August 27, 2015 from 6.30pm.

Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol district officer Coby Walker said a number of changes to Queensland’s freshwater fishing rules came into effect from February 1, 2015.

“It’s important fishers are aware of the changes to freshwater fishing rules so they can ensure they are doing the right thing and avoid getting fined,” Mr Walker said.

“The changes include the banning of set lines, trap marking requirements, restrictions on the use of funnel and round traps, new closed water boundaries, restrictions on the use of marine baits in fresh waters and new size and possession limits and closed seasons, to name a few.

“Several of the changes are relevant in the St George area, particularly the extension of the Murray cod closed season.

“Given the high rates of freshwater fishing in the St George region, it’s important fishers come along to learn about the changes and have any questions or concerns they have answered.”
