Barra, Bream, Flathead & Jew around Bundaberg

Well, it’s that time of the year again when the Win Television Monduran Family Fishing Classic is on – this weekend, the 17th and 18th of October at Lake Monduran near Gin Gin.  This is always a fantastic competition with thousands of dollars of cash and prizes to be won.  The longest overall barramundi will win $1,000 and the major senior lucky draw prize is a boat, motor and trailer package, which is drawn on Sunday.

This competition has something for the whole family and you don’t have to catch a fish to be in the running for all the lucky draws.  For the first time in a long time the weather predicted for the weekend looks good, with warm nights and constant winds from the south-east forecast.

This should be the perfect recipe to get the barra on the chew, as we’re predicting that there will be quite a few barra weighed in.  Most of the Tackle World Bundaberg team will be attending the weekend, so come up and say “G’day”.

If you can’t make it up to Monduran this year there will be heaps of fishing options around the Bundaberg area this weekend.

With 10 to 15 knots of wind forecast, it might be a good chance for the bigger boats to get stuck into a few quality reef fish.  Another option is to chase the spanish mackerel that seem to be right along our coastline in good numbers.

Good reports have come in from the Burnett River all week.  Most anglers are coming home with a mixed bag of nice grunter, bream, flathead, blue salmon, three-tooth jew and a few whiting.

The prawns have been a little patchy.  Try cast-netting at either the top or the bottom of the tide for best results. The numbers of mangrove jack being hooked is starting to increase as the water temperature starts to rise.

The guys that have been targeting the barra in the saltwater only have a few weeks left before the barra closure on the 1st of November, so try to make the most of it before then.

Fish with confidence,

Dale Smith
