Whiting biting in Broadwater and Jumpinpin

Brett is back from holidays but is very busy helping with the refurbishment of one of our spa boats Blue Sky.  She is looking fantastic and will be heading out on the water this weekend so I have offered to write the report this week.

We have had some better days for heading out on the water for a fish during the week. It was good to see some moderate winds and sunshine.

Reports are coming in that some nice Whiting biting throughout the rivers and sandbanks in the Broadwater & Jumpinpin areas.  Some good spots to target are the North Bedrooms and Tiger Mullet Channel. For the land based angler, try Paradise Point beach and Marine Parade Labrador. Try using small yabbies or worms to get the whiting biting. Summer is just around the corner and the nights are starting to warm up, so why not try your luck at some night fishing.  Night time is a great time to go fishing with less activity on and around the water and with the cover of darkness, fish may become more active and feed more aggressively. Don’t forget the insect repellent!

We have had reports from both our houseboat and local customers of some good sized Flathead being caught in the Coomera River. Brown Island, Whalleys Gutter and Canaipa Passage are also good spots to hook a Flatty. Drift either dead or live bait across the tops of the sandbanks at high tide. Target the deeper channels or drains adjacent to the banks as the tide falls. Working metal blades in ½ or 3/8 ounce should tempt them to bite. Zman soft plastics are also a great option.

A mixed bag (or should I say “pot”) of both Sand and Mud crabs being caught this week. With the majority still being Sandys, the rain forecast for next week will help to flush the Muddies out.  Some good spots to throw in are pot are Dux, Never Fails, Curtis and Tiger Mullet Channel. Use Whole Mullet as bait and remember to check you have not keep any crab that is undersized.  We sell crab measures for under $7.00 and are a good investment and may even save you from a hefty fine.

Happy fishing!
