Hi Everyone, hope you’ve all had a great week, we’ve been pretty lucky lately with a nice run of weather. As School Holidays kick off it looks like we will see rain over the weekend and early next week. Let’s have a look at some fishing options.

School Holidays are here already, it’s a great time to get the kids active outdoors and out of the house. We have lots of fishing options on the Gold Coast for kids with all levels fishing of experience. Places to find a jetty to fish are the Grand Hotel Labrador, Broadwater Parklands, Southport Bridge, Paradise Point, Hope Island and Jacobs Well are all popular with family’s. A basic running sinker rig on a kiddies combo and a humble prawn will do the job well on a number of species like Bream, Tarwhine, Whiting, Flathead, Trevally or Flounder just to name a few. We have plenty of sandy beaches in the Tallebudgera Creek, Currumbin Creek, Southport Spit, Biggera Waters, Runaway Bay and Paradise Point which are great spots to take the kids. If you need advice or gear drop into to Coomera Bait and Tackle and we will help you to increase your chances of catching fish with the kids.

With rain on the forecast it is a great opportunity to chase a feed of muddies as the fresh water should get the mud crabs moving. Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers have been catching a few this week. Extra rain should get them moving in good numbers leading up to Christmas. Some good spots to look are The Coomera River North and South Arms, Brown Island, Pimpama River, Logan River, The Never Fails Islands, Tipplers Passage, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point and Eden Island. Plenty of Sand Crabs are also still on offer on the edges of the main channels and around the sandbanks in Tiger Mullet Channel and Canaipa Passage.

After the rain the water quality will vary depending on tide and area you are looking at fishing. Through the main channels you can see the current lines where the fresh is meeting with the salt, these areas are great to look for bait and predators like Trevally, Tailor, Tarpon and Jewfish prowling around. Also try fishing closer to the Pin Bar and Gold Coast Seaway especially on the run in tide as the water quality will be much better and some good fish should be on offer.

Clint from Brad Smith Fishing Charters has reported a good mixed bag of Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Flounder and Tusk Fish from the Broadwater. Brad has been having success on the Whiting and Bream throwing surface lures around in the Tweed River.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see stronger Northerly winds on Friday which will tend more NE on Saturday and Sunday along with rain and the chance of storms. We may even see a strong SE wind change on Monday depending on how the low pressure systems track over the weekend.  I always recommend you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
