Noosa River is still a hot spot for anglers

The Noosa River has again come up with the goods with some great fish. Starting down towards the mouth there have been good quality bream on strips of fresh mullet around the rocks at the river mouth. We have seen nice whiting around the dog beach and sand bags area on live bloodworms. Trevally and tailor have been taking metal slugs like the River2sea Ultra flash, and soft plastic like the Fuze prawn heads. In Woods Bay, golden trevally, diamond trevally, giant trevally and, cale cale trevally, have all fallen victim to Shout Micro jigs, River2Sea bubble pop 65’s and Rovers surface walkers. First thing in the morning on the run in tide has been the best with tailor also hitting bait on the surface. A little further upriver Weyba creek and the back of the sound have seen some great quality flathead to 60cm with troller Ecogear SX60 nabbing the odd fish. Up towards the ski runs there has been plenty of quality trevally on soft plastics like the Squidgy Prawn and Evergreen Little Max blades.
Offshore with the wind at that annoying 10 to 15 knot range a lot of angler decided to give it a miss but for those anglers that managed to get out there were some cracking cobia, mackerel and the odd wahoo around North Reef. Live baits and floating pillies have been working well along with micro jigs and big plastics. Sunshine Reef was also producing with a few nice coral trout, snapper, sweetlip, tuskfish.

In the fresh water Lake Macdonald is still fishing well with afternoon still the prime time. Finesse plastics over the weed, has been the go with Norris and Maria tailspinners and softplastics rigged on jig spinners working well. Trolling hardbody lures like the River 2 Sea Baby Cranks covers a lot of ground and can produce good numbers of fish. Don’t forget if you are planning a trip to the dams that you will need a stocked Impoundment permit, available online or call into Davo’s and the team will help you out.
