Mixed weather and fishing from Kawana

G’day fellow anglers,

We have had almost a mixed season of weather the last week. There have been plenty of cloudy days with scattered localized showers. However it does look like that will subside for the weekend. Friday morning started cloudy and as the sun rose the clouds disappeared. It does look like the wind and swell will be favourable to most boats heading outside. We are looking at swell around 1m and wind under 10 knots for the weekend with a possible rise on Tuesday.

The Northern Barwon banks have been said to be producing a good range of reef fish with some trophy fish in amongst them such as big Red and Spangled Emperor. Large Tusk fish have been on the rise with the outer reefs putting a few on the dinner plate.

The Mooloolah River, rock walls and the Basin have been producing some big Whiting, Bream and Flathead. Off the river mouth is a great spot to land some odd Squire and Grunter also. Best baits for Bream have been Mullet Fillets and Mullet Gut. Live Yabbies and Cured Beach worms have been the better baits for Whiting.

The Beaches are still turning up good numbers of really nice Bream and Chopper Tailor to the anglers with a keen eye for picking the gutters (deeper water) which has had some form about it with the southerlies blowing earlier in the week. The best reports from the beaches have been from Tee- Wah beach with some lovely mixed bags of fish including a nice bag of Whiting, Bream and Tailor I saw just yesterday.

The moon is in its first quarter Friday night and the weekend looks like perfect weather so it will be a great weekend for getting outside and enjoying it.
