Mixed bag of weather and fish on Gold Coast

We’ve had a mixed bag of weather this week on the Gold Coast with big swells and tides early in the week then the odd storm followed by strong Southerly winds to finish off the week. Let’s see how our customers went trying their luck.

Our Houseboat customers have been catching a few nice Bream, Jumpinpin has been fishing well around Tiger Mullet Channel, Short Island, Crusoe Island, Eden Island, Mc Kenzies Channel, and the Powerlines. Most bridges and jetties around Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Southport and Nerang River are all holding some nice Bream. Last weekend the ABT tournament round was held on the Gold Coast seeing plenty of nice Bream being caught around Southport and the Nerang River area. Prawns, Mullet Fillet, Squid, White Pilchards, Worms and Yabbies are all great bait. Small soft plastics, Vibes and surface lures worked around structures are an exciting way to fish for Bream if you like to mix up your fishing methods.

We’ve had reports of a few nice Whiting from the local rivers and shore based anglers at Paradise Point and Runaway Bay. The weather on Sunday is looking ok this may be a good option to take the kids for a fish this weekend, try using worms, yabbies and prawns.

Flathead numbers have been a bit up and down this week with the mixed tides and weather conditions. A bit of the dreaded snot weed is starting to show up making trolling lures a bit harder in some areas. It’s just a matter of moving around to find the fish and areas to suit your style of fishing depending on if you are trolling hard body lures, jigging vibes or casting plastics. Big fish should be starting to move closer to the ocean entrances as we get closer to September.

A few Tailor have been on offer around the Gold Coast Seaway, Currigee Channel and also around the Jumpinpin Bar entrance and Channels along Crusoe Island this week. Birds and bait is a great sign you will find fish, if you can’t see any obvious signs then covering ground with hard body lures is the go.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

At the time of writing my report we are going to see a strong Southerly change move through Friday and continue Saturday and tend S/SE as the day goes on and ease into the evening. Sunday will see the wind ease and looks like the pick of the days to go for a fish. Make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
