Quality catches on Coomera Houseboats

We had some nice weather last weekend before the southeasterly blew up on Monday, making offshore uncomfortable and the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and rivers the best options to fish during the week.

Peter and the crew on one of our houseboats had a great trip catching some quality Jewfish up to 85cm, big Bream 43cm and plenty of Flathead at Jumpinpin last week, great job guys we look forward to seeing you next time.

Peter 85cm Jewfish August 2016 2

Quality Jewfish have been around Jumpinpin in good numbers taking live bait like Mullet, Pike, Tailor, Yakkas and Winter Whiting, dead baits like Squid, Mullet Fillet and WA Pilchards and soft plastics and vibes worked around bait schools. Try fishing the Pin Bar entrance, Kalinga Bank, Canaipa Passage, Five Ways, Tiger Mullet Channel and Marks Rocks in the Logan River. The Gold Coast Seaway has also produced some nice Jew off the pipeline and north wall using the same methods.

Some good catches of Bream have been taken this week, best spots are the Gold Coast Seaway, Wave Break Island, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay Canal mouths, Lands End, Coomera River, Dux, Crusoe Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Short Island and Logan River are worth a look.  Mullet Fillet, Mullet Gut, White Pilchards, Squid, Prawns and Yabbies are a good option.

Jumpinpin and the Broadwater continue to produce good numbers of Flathead this week, trolling hard body lures, working blades, casting soft plastics and soft vibes like the Zerek fish trap have all accounted for some nice Flathead.  Target the edges of sandbanks as the tide falls and the tops of the banks on high tide for best results. Some spots worth having a look are Wave Break Island, Crab Island Middle Banks, Brown Island, Aldershots, Coomera River, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fails, Jacobs Well, Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms and Kalinga Bank.

A few Tailor are still around on the last of the incoming tide around the Pin Bar and main cannels, The Gold Coast Seaway and Crab Island Channels, just keep an eye out for birds diving and splashing on the water surface indicating schools of fish feeding.  Drifting WA Plichards, trolling hard body lures and casting metal slugs are all good option if you can find fish.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report we will see N/NW winds on Saturday at 10-15knots tending Southerly during the night and starting to ease by Sunday afternoon, not a bad forecast well worth heading out for a look. Brett

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au
