Large flathead, jewfish and more on Gold Coast

We have seen fairly light wind, plenty of Sunshine and not too much swell offshore this week on the Gold Coast giving anglers plenty of options to explore the estuaries and offshore grounds in search of a fish. Let’s see what has been biting this week.

With good conditions on offer this week a few customers made the most of the weather and headed offshore looking for a feed. Reports from the 24 & 18 fathoms reefs East and South East of the Seaway are a few nice Snapper being caught just after sun up and also on the tide change. A good mixed bag of Pearl Perch, Trag Jew, Tusk Fish, Moses Perch, Nice Jew Fish, and a few line burning Mac Tuna have been caught. Float Lining with the lightest sinker depending on the current is the best method using WA Pilchards, Large Squid, Mullet Fillet, Live Yakka’s or Slimy Mackerel have worked well or you can fillet or Butterfly the Yakka’s or Slimy’s if they don’t get hit live.

Jumpinpin has been fishing quite well for the past couple of week’s and again this week has produced some quality catches. Drifting the Bar entrance with live baits like Herring, Pike, Winter Whiting or Mullet has worked well on large Flathead, Jew Fish, Tailor and Trevally. If you can’t catch live bait then WA Pilchards, Large Whole Squid or Mullet Fillet will work. Large Plastics and Zerek Fish Trap soft Vibes have been accounting for some top quality fish as well.

Good quality Whiting have been caught at the Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel, Canaipa Passage, Logan River, Jacobs Well, Coomera River South and North arms, Currigee and Wave Break Island this week, Yabbies and Worms are the best bait to chase a tasty feed.

Bream are still on the chew in the Coomera River fishing around the local jetty’s, bridges, rock walls and snags. I took my kids for a quick fish on Sunday National Gone Fishing Day and we ended up with 13 Bream smallest 27cm biggest 32cm. They are a great option for kids to chase land based, other good spots to try are Hope Island, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay foreshore, Biggera Waters, Labrador, The Gold Coast Seaway Walls, Marine Stadium and Jacobs Well. Best bait is Prawns, Squid, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet, Mullet Gut, Worms and Yabbies.

There are plenty of Sand Crabs moving around the Broadwater and Jumpinpin channels this week, well worth putting in the pots when you go fishing.

At the time of writing my report we will see the Northerly winds increase on Saturday before a stronger  South Easterly Change pushes through on Sunday, try and find a good spot out of the wind and enjoy your fishing this weekend.
