Hot weather puts Gold Coast fish on the bite

We’ve had a warm one on the Gold Coast this week, seeing some very hot days and a bit of drizzle thrown in. Our houseboat customers are having a great time making the most of the school holidays and enjoying the fishing and cruising area on the Gold Coast.

Good news for anglers who enjoy chasing spotty mackerel, they have shown up in better numbers on Palm and Mermaid reefs this week. Spanish are still a bit hit and miss but won’t be far off either. You can use a few different methods to catch the Spotty Mackerel one of the more popular is to anchor up then burley and float back half pillie pieces on a single hook on light wire. You can also get good results trolling whole WA pilchards, small skirted lures or casting metal slugs you just have to change the size of the slug to match the bait fish they are feeding on. The local reefs are still producing some top quality Snapper as young Rebecca found out this week landing an 81cm model. Some quality Jew Fish have also been showing up around the 18 to 24 fathom reefs off the Gold Coast along with a mixed bag of Moses, Trag and a few Parrot fish.

Customers have been getting stuck into some nice Mangrove Jack in the Coomera River this week. Whilst chasing Jacks customers have been hooking some quality Trevally and Estuary Cod as  bycatch which can be a welcome distraction if the Jack bite is a bit quiet. Zmans 3 & 4 inch Minnowz and Swimmers have been the lure of choice.

Our Houseboat Customers have been catching a nice feed of Mud Crabs and Sand Crabs this week. Some good spots have been the Coomera River North Arm and South Arm, Pimpama River, Tipplers Passage, Brown Island, Eastern Side of the Aldershots, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Tabby Tabby Island and Canaipa Passage.

Good numbers of Bream and Whiting have been keeping the kids busy this week on School Holidays, Worms, Yabbies and Prawns are great bait. Some good land based spots to try are Hope Island, Coomera River, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Biggera Waters and the Nerang River. In the boat try Coomera River, Paradise Point, Crab Island, Tipplers Passage, Jacobs Well Shoals, Bedrooms, Tiger Mullet Channel and Canaipa Passge.
