Gold Coast giving up good fish

We’ve had a nice week weather wise, with the Gold Coast giving us light winds and sunshine making conditions on the water favourable. It’s great to be back on deck after a couple of weeks off, looks like our customers have been catching some great fish and crabs while I was away.  Let’s have a look at fishing options for the weekend.

Our Houseboat customers out last weekend did well after the dump of rain on Friday getting stuck into good numbers of quality mud crabs.  With the new moon this Friday we have some large tides and plenty of water moving through the system which has also made the mud crabs active this week.  Try setting your pots in the mouth of the North Arm of the Coomera, Pimpama River, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fails Islands, Whalleys Gutter, Tiger Mullet Channel and the Mouth of the Logan River for a feed.

A few banana prawns have been caught this week around the top end of Russell Island, Karragarra Island and Macleay Island. It’s worth having a look as they won’t be around much longer as we head into June numbers will drop off, get out and catch a great feed while you can.

The crew on board one of our Houseboats landed a quality 82 cm Jew Fish pictured in this week’s report, well done. With the cooler night starting to set in more quality Jew will be on offer throughout the Jumpinpin and Broadwater region.  The Logan River around Mark’s Rocks has also produced a few good early season Jew lately.  Live Mullet, Pike and Tailor are great bait, if you can’t find live bait Mullet Fillet is the next best option.

Quality Bream have been caught in good numbers during late May, as we head into winter it looks like a great season on the way for the Bream fisherman around Jumpinpin area and also the Gold Coast Seaway. Some good spots to try around the Pin are the Huts along Short Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Crusoe Island, Rock Bars near the Power Lines and the Logan River.  Down the southern end of the Broadwater try the Gold Coast Seaway Walls, Wave Break Island, Lands End, Marine Parade Labrador is a great land based spot to fish.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks great for the weekend with light S/SE wind on Friday and Saturday then tending light N/NW on Sunday. Conditions are looking ok to head offshore at this stage just  make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
