Gold Coast blessed with good fishing conditions

It was great to see the Gold Coast blessed again this week with light winds and plenty of sunshine for all our Houseboats hirers and Tackle Shop Customers during the week.

There is definitely a winter chill in the air for everyone getting an early start on the water, let’s have a look at some fishing options.
Flathead have been quite active in the shallow water on the top of sandbanks throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinpin at high tide, try the edges of the sandbanks as the tide starts to fall along with creek and river mouths. The Flathead will tend to lie on the drop off of the sandbanks and in the creek mouths and ambush the bait as it retreats with the falling tide. Casting Zman soft plastics is a very effective method to target fish, 3” minnowZ and StreakZ 3.75” matched with either a 1/4 or 3/8 2/0 or 3/0 hook size will do the trick.

With winter weather well under way reports of quality Bream keep coming in this week. Most rock walls like the Gold Coast Seaway, Labrador Esplanade, Biggera Waters and Runaway Bay Canal entrances are a great spot to catch a nice feed land based. Jumpinpin is a favourite for local anglers putting in lots of hours on the cold nights chasing a great feed of fish. Bream like to spawn closer to the ocean entrances, best spots around the Pin are Crusoe Island, Short Island, Five Ways, Kalinga Bank and Tiger Mullet Channel. Fish the structure around Rocky Point, Logan River,

Russel Island and the Power Lines fish well.
Plenty of bait fish have started to school up throughout the Jumpinpin and Broadwater area, our Houseboat customers have had heaps of bait hanging around the rear deck lights at night making cast netting live bait easy. Customers have had some big fish hitting the bait behind the boats at night, live bait has produced some quality Jewfish and Tailor.

Some bigger tides this week thanks to the full moon Friday 9th has helped keep the Mud Crabs active even in the cooler conditions, the water temp is still reasonably high compared to the land. Customers have been catching a great feed around Coby Passage, Canaipa Passage, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and Logan River.

At the time of writing my report the forecast is looking ok wind wise with light to moderate S to SW winds but we will have some rain over the weekend. I always recommend to have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.
