Get involved! Queensland Fisheries Management Review consultation

FISHING is an important part of the Queensland lifestyle and economy but the existing management processes need to be modernised.

The Queensland Fisheries Management Review moved ahead with the recent release of the independent report by consultant MRAG Asia Pacific.

The report recommends a comprehensive suite of management reforms aimed at completely changing management arrangements.

There are 80 recommendations in total covering all aspects of commercial, recreational and traditional fishing.

Implementation of the proposed reforms, which include substantially altering the allocation of fisheries resources in Queensland and replacing the current Act and regulations, will require significant change.

This is about modernising the Queensland Government’s approach to fisheries management, so Fisheries Queensland is seeking community and stakeholder feedback on the recommendations.

The full report and recommendations can be viewed at publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/fisheries-management-review and the review itself is right here: https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/a31b4b09-6669-40fc-96ae-8c6ecbc634cc/resource/2a97571b-60cf-4a4f-bf8f-306a95833b70/download/takingstockfinalreport.pdf
