Hi Everyone, hope you’ve all had a great week, the weather has been a bit up and down with the warmer N/NW winds kicking in making the Fishing a bit harder at times and warming up the winter days quite considerably for this time of year.  Let’s see what been biting.

Flathead have been dominating catches again this week for anglers fishing around the Tweed River, Gold Coast Broadwater and Jumpinpin. Lots of fish are still making their way out of the local rivers and estuary’s slowly heading towards the ocean entrances as we head towards breeding season late September early October.  A lack of rain as seen better schools of bait fish still hanging further up the rivers for this time of year and the Flathead are slowly moving around with the bait.  We’ve had an extra dry winter so far and it is starting to affect  how you choose an area to fish.  Fingers crossed we get a bit of rain soon to flush out the river systems, in turn that will in make fishing better for everyone in the coming months. Coomera Bait and Tackle customer Rodney Taylor dropped in for a chat during the week and after pointing him in the right direction landed a nice feed of Flathead trolling hard body lures in the Coomera River (see photo in report) right near our shop.  Anglers that fished the Gold Coast Sport Fish Club Top Gun Shootout last Sunday did it hard at times but still managed a few nice fish.  Some consistent areas to try are the Coomera River, Runaway Bay, Wave Break Island, Tipplers Passage, Pimpama River, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River and Canaipa Passage.

Brad Smith Fishing Charters have been finding their customers a good mixed bag of Tailor, Flathead, Flounder and Squid fishing around Runaway Bay. Brad has been doing well fishing the upper reaches of the Tweed River scoring plenty of Flathead working.

A good window of weather last Saturday saw plenty of anglers head out offshore for a fish, team member Jason did well scoring some great Snapper up to 70cm fishing Diamond Reef. He said burley was the key to attract the Snapper and keep them on the bite. Floating lining WA Pilchards, Squid, Mullet Fillet and Bonito Fillet worked best. A good variety of fish were caught on the 36 fathom line last weekend including Snapper, Pearl Perch, Tusk Fish, Amberjack, Yellow Tail Kingfish and Cobia. Kerryn Cooper did well on the 36 fathom landing some quality Snapper and Tuna.

Whiting are worth targeting at the moment, they are a great option for the kids land based. A few spots to try are Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Marine Stadium, Nerang River and Jacobs Well. To make it more fun you can take the kids to pump yabbies first as they are great bait, also beach worms will work well.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.
