Gold Coast sands crabs are on the move

We have had a gusty week on the Gold Coast this week with a few storms and some isolated showers that have made the fishing a bit of a challenge. Brett is still on annual leave and from all reports he has been slaying it in the fishing department. Stories and photos to come no doubt, I can’t wait to see the pics myself, Brett never fails to get amongst ‘em. Gold Coast sand crabs are on the move

Our houseboats on the water managed to find some protected spots from the north west winds that blew up on Tuesday and hung around through Wednesday. This week the winds will ease a little and be predominately from the south east and moderate. After a little rain that is forecast for today and Saturday the coming week is looking rain free for now.

Fishing

It’s been a little quite on the fishing front this week with only a few reports of some Jew Fish showing up around the Gold Coast Seaway, Jumpinpin Bar area including Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island and Canaipa Passage. Keep in mind when fishing for Jew that the minimum size limit is 75cm. Live Herring, Pike or Mullet will temp a bite, fish your live baits in free spool, just remember to be patient and let the fish run for as long as possible before you strike. A good start would be to count to 30 slowly and then strike any early pressure. The Jew Fish will just drop the live bait. Dead bait such as Mullet Fillet will also work. For the lure fisherman, Metal blades and larger Soft Plastics worked on the bottom will do the trick.

Crabs

Again this week the muddies are a little scarce but the sand crabs are still on the move. It’s worth putting a pot in, you may just get a mixed bunch. Remember in Queensland waters you can only keep buck that meet the size limit and all jenny’s are to be released.

At the time of writing this report the weather is looking ok again for this weekend. A shower or two on Saturday and fine for Sunday, with winds from the South East and will be the better day to get out on the water. Always make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water. If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Jason
