Catch a Catty Family Fishing Competition 2016

IT’S on again! The Paradise Stocking Association’s Catch a Catty Family Fishing Competition will be held on August 27 and 28, 2016.

The competition will be held at Mingo Crossing Caravan and Recreation Park on the Burnett River. Mingo Crossing is situated on Gayndah Mount Perry Rd and showers, toilets and plenty of camping space are all on offer. Powered sites are available, but we advise you book early.

The money raised from the competition goes into stocking Paradise Dam with barramundi and bass fingerlings. Paradise Stocking Association introduced 11,000 bass fingerlings earlier in the year and 7500 barra fingerlings were released before Christmas.

As always, thousands of dollars in lucky draws and raffles are to be won on Saturday night and Sunday at lunchtime. All prizes are generously donated by the event sponsors. These lucky draws and raffles will be conducted just prior to the major draws on Sunday.

The senior major prize is a 3.5m Sea Jay boat with 9hp motor, trailer and safety gear, proudly donated by Bundaberg Marineland. The junior major prizes are two Scamp Fish Kayaks, one for boys and one for girls, donated by Koastal Kayaks Bundaberg.

A major fish prize of $250 for the heaviest catfish will be awarded to both a senior male and senior female angler (sponsored by Ken Mills Toyota). Junior male and female fishers will compete for a $75 major cash prize. Prizes will also be awarded for winners in various other senior and junior categories.

The competitor who catches the longest barra will receive $1000 (sponsored by Evolution Mining Mount Perry). The event organisers prefer catch and release, but this should not stop anglers keeping their catch. The Competition starts at 5am on Saturday, August 27 and finishes at 10.30am on Sunday, August 28.

Now in its sixth year, the competition has grown steadily from 80 entrants in 2010 to over 300 last year. We hope this year will be just as successful.

Without the awesome generosity of our sponsors the competition would not be such a success, so their support is greatly appreciated by organisers Paradise Stocking Association as well as competitors.
