Busy week on Gold Coast with school holidays & Flathead Classic & Queens Birthday long weekend

IT has been a pretty busy week on the Gold Coast with all the Houseboats out for School Holidays, The Flathead Classic is underway and the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend starts Friday, looks like the wind will ease just enough for everyone to enjoy some quality time on the water this weekend.

Our Houseboat customers have reported a good mixed bag of species being caught this week from the Broadwater and Jumpinpin area, plenty of kids have been getting amongst the action.  Majority of the Houseboats have been finding some bream, whiting, flathead and a few sand and mud crabs.  Some good spots are the Coomera River, Tipplers Passage, The Neverfail Islands, Tiger Mullet Channel, Eden Island, Jacobs Well, Coby Passage and the Logan River.  Just a basic running sinker set up with a 3 to 4 ball sinker and a size 4 to 6 bait holder hook is a good all round rig.  Best bait options depending on species are Prawns, Worms, Squid, White Pilchards, Mullet Fillet and Yabbies.

The Gold Coast Sports Fish Club Flathead Classic is underway form Thursday 29th to Saturday 1st of October seeing hundreds of anglers trying their luck this year with mixed weather conditions on the forecast to test the best teams and anglers.  Flathead have been around in good numbers for the past few months and I’m sure all the teams have worked out which areas and producing and when. If you’re not fishing the comp and are keen to chase a Flathead try the Coomera River, Gold Coast Seaway, Currigee, Crab Island, Brown Island, Aldershots, Tipplers Passage, Dux, Bedrooms, Pin Bar, Kalinga Bank and Tiger Mullet Channel have been fishing well.  Drifting WA Pilchards, White Pilchards and Yabbies work well if you prefer to use bait.  For the lure fisho’s try mixing up Soft Plastics, Soft Vibes and Metal Blades all work well, jig head weight or lure weight will depend on the depth of water a tide flow in the area you are fishing.

Some nice whiting have been caught lately, this is a great sign as we lead up to Summer.  Customers have found some nice fish in the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Logan River, Jacobs Well, Bedrooms, Paradise Point and the Nerang River all worth a look.  Worms or Yabbies are the best bait, I recommend a nice long trace, size 4-6 short bait holder hook and a 4 ball sinker as the standard rig.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays/Coomera Bait & Tackle now have Hire Tinnies follow the link to view.   Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast.

At the time of writing my report we will see a bit of stronger W/NW wind on Friday and Saturday before tending lighter W/SW on Sunday being the nicest day of the weekend so far.

Just keep in mind the boats ramps and waterways will be extra busy over the Long Weekend so a bit of extra patience and understanding will be required J

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au    Good luck with the Fishing.  Brett
